How does the CPF work for temporary agency workers?

What is the CPF and how does it work for temporary agency workers?

The Compte Personnel de Formation (CPF)—Personal Training Account—is a scheme set up by the French government to help employees, including temporary agency workers, finance vocational training throughout their working life. Available to every worker as soon as they enter the labour market, this account is credited each year in proportion to the time worked.
For temporary workers, the CPF is especially useful because it enables them to acquire or strengthen key skills so they can better meet the demands of the temporary-employment market. Every temp assignment contributes to topping up the CPF, which accumulates over the years in the form of hours converted into euros. These training credits remain available even during periods of inactivity, thus providing valuable continuity in the professional development of temporary workers.
Thanks to this scheme, temps can calmly plan their career progression—whether to boost their employability, obtain a higher qualification or make it easier to enter the labour market.

Who can benefit from the CPF in temporary work?

The CPF for temps is open to any temporary agency worker who has completed at least one assignment. Concretely, every hour worked in a temp job directly feeds your CPF, regardless of your length of service or the duration of your assignments. Thus, from your very first assignment you start accruing rights to vocational training.
The amount credited to your CPF is proportional to your working time: for a full-time schedule, the account is generally credited with €500 per year, up to a total cap of €5,000. These entitlements can be accumulated throughout your career, including when you alternate between periods of work and inactivity.
Specific conditions can affect the amount credited to your CPF. For example, for workers who are low-qualified or unqualified, the amount can reach €800 per year with a cap of €8,000. It is therefore important to check your CPF account regularly to know exactly what rights are available.

What training courses are eligible under the CPF for temps?

The temp CPF gives you access to a wide range of certificate-granting or qualification-oriented training courses. Among the most popular with temporary workers are courses aimed at acquiring specific technical skills, such as CACES (safe-driving permits for industrial vehicles), SST (First-Aid at Work) or foreign-language courses.
Beyond these courses directly linked to temp assignments, you can also use your CPF to embark on longer programmes, such as a vocational diploma or an officially recognised qualification (CAP, BEP, BTS, professional Bachelor’s degree, etc.). These pathways foster real career development and can open the door to more highly-qualified positions.
To be eligible for CPF funding, the chosen course must be listed on the official Mon Compte Formation platform. This platform gathers all the training courses certified by the State, thereby guaranteeing their quality and recognition on the labour market.

How do you use your CPF when you are a temp?

Activating your CPF as a temp is simple and accessible to everyone. First, go to the official Mon Compte Formation platform—online or via the dedicated mobile app. Log in with your social-security number or via FranceConnect.
Once logged in, you can view your available entitlements and select a course that matches your career goals. You can search by sector, occupation, duration or geographic location.
After identifying the ideal course, you can apply directly online. The training provider then has a set period to approve your request. Once accepted, you will be guided through the administrative formalities, which are fully digital and streamlined.
Note that your employer (the temp agency or the client company) does not have to authorise your use of the CPF if the course takes place outside your working hours. If the training occurs during working hours, however, you must obtain prior approval from your employer.

What are the advantages for temps in using their CPF?

Using your CPF as a temp offers several important benefits. First, the scheme enables you to continually improve your professional skills, making you more attractive to recruiters. Certified courses allow you to obtain recognised qualifications that enhance your CV.
Second, the CPF offers considerable flexibility. You are free to choose short or long courses, according to your needs and availability—an advantage in temping, where assignments can be irregular. Finally, regularly drawing on your CPF is an excellent way to secure your career path. By boosting your employability, you increase your chances of landing better-paid assignments or finding longer-term job opportunities more easily.
