New Leave Entitlements from July 1st, 2021: Key Takeaways 👇
Paternity Leave Increases from 11 to 25 Days!
The right to paternity leave applies to the child's father if he is an employee, as well as the partner of the child's mother if they are also an employee.
This leave must be taken within 6 months following the child's birth. It is available for all types of employment contracts (permanent, fixed-term, temporary assignment contracts) and has no seniority requirement.
The leave request must be submitted to the employer at least 1 month before the start date. Notably, the leave is divided into two periods:
- The first period of 4 days must be taken immediately after the newborn's birth.
- The second period of 21 days.
The employee has 6 months to take their paternity leave.
Adoption Leave Increase: From 10 to 16 Weeks!
Before July 1st, employees who adopted a child were entitled to 10 weeks of leave. The duration could be increased to 18 weeks depending on the number of dependent children and to 22 weeks depending on the number of children adopted; these durations remain unchanged after July 1st, 2021.
Since July 1st, the duration of adoption leave has been increased to 16 weeks for households with no other children or dependent children.
In the event of adoption leave being shared by both employed adoptive parents, the duration is increased by 25 days, and by 32 days in the case of multiple adoptions.
