New Measures to Strengthen the Safety of Temporary Workers
Young people entering the world of work are often more exposed to occupational risks. Their lack of experience makes them particularly vulnerable. The figures speak for themselves. According to the Minister of Labor's Plan for the Prevention of Serious and Fatal Workplace Accidents, nearly 15% of serious accidents occur within the first three months of hiring. The accident frequency rate is much higher than that of older workers. This phenomenon is mainly due to the lack of seniority, with the accident rate decreasing with years of experience.
Since 2022, the Ministry of Labor has been committed to improving the safety of temporary workers. A plan has been put in place to prevent serious and fatal workplace accidents, particularly targeting falls from height, road risks, and the use of certain machinery.
To go even further in the protection of temporary employees, four new measures have been introduced:
✅ Strengthen the mobilization of the temporary work sector in favor of the health and safety of temporary employees (see measure 30 p. 59);
✅ Deepen knowledge about discomfort at work to better prevent it;
✅ Improve knowledge of the consequences of heat waves on workers' health;
✅ Strengthen the prevention of risks related to heat waves.
The Minister of Labor, Catherine Vautrin, recently emphasized the importance of supporting the temporary work sector in implementing prevention actions: “Actions will also be undertaken to support the temporary work professional sector in the deployment of prevention actions targeting temporary workers, who are particularly exposed to the risk of workplace accidents. This will notably involve undertaking work aimed at equally distributing the cost of workplace accidents and occupational diseases between temporary employment agencies and user companies, in order to strengthen their coordination in terms of prevention.”
Their e-prevention-interim platform is a digital tool that offers various modules covering six sectors of activity: tertiary, construction, logistics, industry, agri-food, and career. Through practical simulations and e-learning modules, temporary workers can learn to identify risks and apply essential safety rules.
